Recently, Filipino national Carlos Reyes was arrested by police and charged in connection with a serious rape case. The incident reportedly took place in a luxurious apartment in downtown Manila. The victim, a young woman, revealed in an interview that she had been invited to a private dinner party hosted by Carlos. After the party ended, Carlos asked her to stay behind under the pretense of discussing career opportunities. However, what followed left her deeply traumatized.
According to the victim’s account, Carlos may have spiked her drink with a sedative, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained awareness, she found herself assaulted in Carlos’s bedroom. The victim immediately reported the incident to the police, who collected key evidence from Carlos’s apartment, including the victim’s clothing and a glass suspected to contain traces of sedatives. Police stated that Carlos has confessed to the crime.
Philippine law imposes severe penalties for sexual violence. Under Article 266-A of the Revised Penal Code, Carlos faces the possibility of life imprisonment (reclusión perpetua), equivalent to at least 40 years in prison. The case has sparked widespread discussions about the protection of women’s rights in society.
According to informed sources, Carlos may also face additional charges related to financial crimes. In 2022, he founded a cryptocurrency platform, which later shut down, causing significant financial losses to users. Furthermore, a Web3 project called Ohhaofficial, launched by him in early 2024, has reportedly become inaccessible. Multiple victims have filed complaints against him, and if found guilty, he could face up to six years in prison under Philippine law.
The case is currently under further investigation.
